Volunteer Module

Hi everyone,

I'm very aware of how the volunteer module works, both in database view and in webview. What I'm curious to know is if anyone has heard Blackbaud's plans for it, relative to webview?

In spring of 2019 I spoke with someone at Blackbaud about it and they were planning to “rebuild it from the ground up in webview”. They thought it would take at least two years though, and suggested the client I was calling on behalf of go ahead and implement something else in the meantime.

Volunteer has not been on any roadmaps or PUBs, so I'm curious if anyone has heard something from Blackbaud about it?

Thanks!!

Karen

@Karen Diener, my experience with BB has been that if they say it's on the docket for a 2023 release, I don't expect it until 2025. ? My guess is it's on their to-do, but not at the top. Perhaps if you could rally some extra support in the Idea Bank, that will get it moving faster…

Oh I completely agree. In probably 2017 they implied that they planned to get to “one database to rule them all” around 2020. I was working in a school at the time, and they were first bringing SmartTuition into the Core module, and then merging Core with RE. It was that long ago that they were still calling it Core! Or “On” something. I heard it in person from a Blackbaud rep, who confirmed my understanding was correct. I know that things change, but to pretend you never spoke of it is like gaslighting!

  • You might think about looking at the Marketplace to find a better way to manage volunteers. I was telling Karen Diener the other day that I had a great conversation with Geng Wang last week. He's the CEO of Civic Champs, a volunteer management tool that was just announced in the Marketplace at bbcon. I haven't had the opportunity to recommend it to any of my clients yet, but the product looks fantastic!
