Criteria for first gift workflow

Has anyone developed an easy way to filter new gift workflow to only individuals or specific constituent codes? A team member created but now looking at it, we see it is going to large corporations and to donors giving to an athletic branch that shares our database.

I can't believe that constituent code is not an available criteria when creating workflows. And I really do not want to have to create a list of new donors every week for this purpose.

Great idea in theory but missing the mark for us.

  • @JoAnn Strommen Hi JoAnn, We use a constituent list that filters on New Donor tag and constituent code in workflow to check for new donors. The new donor tag looks for a constituents' first gift in the past two weeks so there is no need to create a new list weekly. An action is then added to the record from the workflow. It has been working well for us. Hope this helps.

Is this a multi email series or just one email to new donors as they come in? We are thinking of putting together a multi email welcome series but wonder as new donors come in will they get the first email, then second or will any new donor get whatever email the series left off on

  • @Joanne Felci they will always start at the beginning with a Workflow. It will run in that order and can be sending multiple emails at any point in time. They have to be specifically marked as such when creating the email. Definitely a good thing to test with your own internal team before doing any constituents.

Note that they can only run through a Workflow one time EVER. And if you create the Workflow and then leave the org, it will not continue to run. The advice on the webinar was to use a “common” user for Workflows for this reason.

  • @Joanne Felci Hi Joanne, There are no emails in my workflow – it’s only adding an action to the constituent record. See Lee's response re multi email welcome series….
