Can you add an 8th grade course to a high school transcript?

I need to Algebra 1 that our 8th graders take to their high school transcript, but the transcript builder will only allow up to 4 quadrants.

  • @Lindsey Robbins - There is a nifty little work around I was told about earlier this year. It tricks the system into thinking a middle school student is an upper school student.

    1. Create an upper school activity in the academic year the 8th grade course was taken - we named the activity Transcript Print
    2. Offer the activity
    3. Enroll any 8th grade students who took a course that needs to appear on the upper school transcript in the upper school activity for the year they took the course
    4. Note: if you wholesale enroll the entire 8th grade class, those students who did not take a course that needs to appear on the transcript will have an 8th grade year listed on their transcript with no courses.

This is a very convenient system, BUT it does limit other options in the system. The way our school makes this work is only course that we need on the upper school transcript are flagged “print on transcript.” Accordingly, the only middle school courses that are flagged “print on transcript” are Algebra I, Spanish I, etc. If we ever want to create a pure middle school transcript that lists all of the courses taken in middle school, we won't be able to do it.

    Hope that helps.

  • @Scott Chrysler Thank you so much! I will give this a try!

I just enter it on their 9th grade year as a transfer course and indicate (8th grade) next to the course name. That has been the easiest for me.

We set up an official note that prints to the transcript, titled it “Transcript note- Teachers do not use”. This places the grade at the bottom of the transcript. We do not give high school credit for classes taken in middle school so this works well for us.
