First name / preferred name mapping in OneRoster

We have a question regarding the change that was made on 2022-12-20 regarding givenName:

After the change, we had a few users bring up a good point about legal first name being better than preferred name in some cases. Our specific example is a college advising app that pulls in our data and generates reports for potential colleges. These colleges need legal first name instead of preferred name.

Is it possible for us to decide how givenName is mapped? I did not see it under Integration Mappings.

We do plan to add the ability to decide which name to use for givenName. Look for a new option on the OneRoster Settings dialog in the coming weeks.

@Stephen Boyle Thanks Stephen - this is what we desperately need because we integrate with Scoir, and the colleges want legal name, not preferred name. Also, for the College Board and the PSAT integration of rosters, they are looking at the legal name, not the preferred name.

When you say in the “coming weeks”, are you looking at sooner rather than later, as in the next couple of weeks? Coming weeks, if it is 10 weeks away could be a problem.

@Stephen Boyle That would be incredible if you and your team could pull that off for next week! We had to stop our sync process once the nicknames started going over to the colleges instead of their legal names.

FYI - In a #MurphyLives/#RealLifeHappens kind of way, the dev working on this got sick, pushing the work just enough to miss the window for this week. But the work is all done now, so expect this in the 2/7 release.
