RE:NXT Portal vs RE:Connect for schools that have RE and K-12

Sometime recently Blackbaud introduced a new portal for RE:NXT customers to allow constituents to update their info and do other tasks. See more at Get Started With the Portal (blackbaud.com). The issue is that if you have RE:Connect then there is a one-way sync Core→RE. If a current parent or anyone synced updates info in RE via this portal, then it gets overwritten on next sync. There isn't a way to limit this to only alum and alum parents. Anyone thought about this yet?

Hi @Brian Hoyt, I'm the product manager for RENXT Portal. You're correct about the data overwriting issue, unfortunately. I do have some K-12 customers who are using RENXT Portal successfully though - they've just disabled Profile Updates from the Feature Configuration. This way, their donors can still manage their recurring gifts in Portal, they just unfortunately can't edit their Profile.

On the flipside, some nice synchronicity is that constituents use a BBID to login to both systems, meaning they don't need a new username/password for the RENXT portal.

Do you think this option could work for you? I'd love to discuss more if you're inclined - feel free to message me or comment here.

@Lacey Kruger One of the main goals of using this portal for our development department was to allow Alum and Alum parents to update profile information. To disable that feature removes much of the value of the portal. Would it be possible to have a way to limit the feature based on constituent code? If the user is tagged as “Current Parent" for example then the feature is unavailable? Currently there is no granularity to the features only an on / off switch.

@Brian Hoyt, thanks for the reply. This does sound feasible but this is the first time I've heard it suggested. I'd recommend creating an Idea for this in the Ideas portal and see if other orgs would benefit from this too. I do reference the ideas portal often as I plan future functionality for portal. Thanks for your input!
