Tracking Donor Advised Fund commitments in CRM

Does anyone have experience with tracking Donor Advised Fund commitments in CRM? We've been tracking DAF commitments as opportunities. However, it is hard to pull DAF payments due if there are multiple installments for DAF commitments because opportunities do not have installment functionality. It seems to be more effective to track DAF commitments as pledges in CRM Revenue. But our Finance department doesn't want to include DAF commitments in pledge projections reports. We are planning to create a pledge subtype to track DAF commitments. This way we can exclude them from pledge projections and include them if needed in other reports. However, OOB reports would include DAF commitments along with regular pledges as they don't have a pledge subtype field.
