Editing a Gift that was incorrectly posted as a Pledge payment

Hello everyone. I have read through a few strings here but have an issue that is not addressed. I am working in RE Database but would be happy to use RENXT if possible. My issue is that we had a donation that was posted in the wrong Gift subtype, Campaign, and Fund. It was also erroneously posted against an Pledge. I went into RE database, pulled up the Gift, and used Adjust to make the changes. When I went to uncheck the Pledge checkbox and tried to save the Adjustment, I got following error message:

• No installments are selected

So I worked through a few more attempts getting errors like:

• The total amount applied ($0.00) does not equal the payment amount ($200,000.00). Do you wish to update the payment amount to $0.00? (at first I panicked and bailed, then I tried again and hit “Yes” which gave me the following error message)
• The payment amount ($0.00) is less than the amount of the gift ($200,000) Do you wish to update the gift amount to $0? (at this point I realized I was in over my head so I am looking for some help).

Once a gift is applied to a pledge, there is no way to undo that. Your best option is to do an adjustment but only to change the gift amount to $0. Then you can re-enter the gift with the correct coding, and as a Cash gift.

There are “Reason” and “Note” fields in the adjustment, which I'm sure you've seen. I tell everyone to make good use of them!

I don't think you'll get any error messages but honestly cannot remember for sure. But I'm certain the group will help you work through those!

I was going to suggest the same thing as @Karen Diener

• Adjust the erroneous gift to $0 (basically reversing it out)
• Be sure to post the adjustment
• Then start over; re-enter the gift with the proper gift type and other coding
