International Student Arrival / Check-In Process

I am interested in finding out how other schools handle international student arrival and check-in.

Currently, I use the Student Checklist to collect a copy of a new student's visa, passport and signed I-20 form. Once they arrive at school we have to issue we have them check their I-94 status and submit a copy (or I go in and check it if they don't check it in a timely fashion). Many colleges have an actual electronic “check-in” process for international students, I am wondering if any high schools have a process using Blackbaud, and if so what is your process?

Thanks!

Karla

  • @Karla McNamee thats a good idea! I am still using a paper process. They check in with me, I make copies of their paperwork and pull the I-94. That way they know who to go to for the yearly travel endorsement. It also helps me learn their names, etc. and talk to them if their passport might need updating during their time here (and guarantees I get a copy!)

  • @Coco Parham that is what we were doing also the past couple of years. No matter what we try to do students either all show up at once and I have a line going down the hall or we have several students who just don't show up and we have to chase them down.

After SEVIS started allowing us to send the I-20 electronically I found that providing it to them through Blackbaud was the safest way to get it to them (our email was hacked several years ago).

  • @Karla McNamee Thanks for the tip for sending the I-20! I will set that up for next time!
