Recurring / Sustainer gifts - Reactivation and Conversion queries

I am trying to set up queries to help with monthly reporting. I've been asked to include in the monthly reporting not only the number of donors that have started a recurring gift each month, but how many of those are reactivations (have been a monthly donor at any point in their history with us) and how many are conversions (have made a donation before, but never a monthly recurring donation).

The new monthly donor query is not an issue, but I am having a lot of trouble creating the queries to pull this information, and would be so grateful for any suggestions or advice.

@Candice McCavitt I would recommend using Export to pull this information. Use your query to gather those who have a recurring gift for the month in question and then attach that query to your export which gives you the rest of their giving history. This could be a lot of data depending on how many years your donors have been giving to your organization.

One of your fields would be last recurring gift which would give you the current recurring gift information you'll need to compare with past recurring gifts.

One of your fields in the export would be recurring gifts from before the month in question but this would be useful if you have started each recurring gift pay-cash with a recurring gift. Some orgs. don't do that. Maybe set the number at 5 or 10 based on your knowledge of your donors. Include the gift information you need to determine if their new recurring gift is a reactivation or conversion.

I think this export would give you what you need in your spreadsheet to make your decisions. You might want to consider having your gift processor add a gift attribute for reactivation and conversion so when they enter a recurring gift, they can check past gifts and code as needed.

@Candice McCavitt, you should be able to do this in query. For the reactivations, you can use Summary gift criteria: Total Number of recurring gifts ≥ 2 AND Total number of recurring gifts with a Held or Terminated Status ≥ 1.

For conversions, also use Summary fields: Total number of recurring gifts (with date ≥ this month) ≥ 1 AND Total number of gifts (cash, pledge, pay-cash, with date < this month) ≥ 1.
