Facebook Fundraisers
How does everyone handle receiving gifts from a Facebook fundraiser? Do you enter the gift from the person who made the gift and soft credit the one who created the fundraiser?
Thanks,

@Adam Eggert - Facebook Fundraiser disbursement documents so rarely provide donor information, that at my last org we had a generic record where we recorded the total disbursement amount - gifts were soft credited to the original donor if an email was provided and we could add that person to the database.
In terms of tracking how much a fundraiser has raised, try using a native area track this - Solicitors to Credit for a Gift > located on a gift record. This will require Facebook fundraisers to be marked as solicitors within the system, but it will enable you to utilize canned reports in DBV and custom insights in WV to keep track of what they have raised for your organization.3 -
@Adam Eggert We credit donor if known. If not, added to “anonymous” record. We do not soft-credit fundraiser as that does not fit our definition of soft-credit (at least partial ownership of the funds). We would go fundraiser/solicitor as @Austen Brown mentioned or a notation on gift if we felt it were warranted.

@Austen Brown Same here. We have a generic record called ‘Facebook Payments' where all these gifts go. We usually just save an Excel file of the payout data to the gift's attachments in NXT.

@Adam Eggert We have a generic facebook/Meta payments record where the payouts are recorded and since our board members like to use facebook for their fundraisers, we only soft credit the board members since we already have all their info in their individual records.

Hello - we do this a little more “over the top” than a lot of orgs and it does take some coordination and time - including some very soft cyber research. If we fall really far behind, we revert to the method others have listed with having a default FB record so our bookkeeper doesnt get antsy.
Here is our process from the beginning when a fundraiser is created:- Go to list of fundraisers on social media.
- Organize by newest to oldest and sort by “Not Thanked.”
- don’t thank until the end of this process. once thanked it is more difficult to filter out who we have/have not processed yet.
- Search for person in database.
- If does not exist, add new constituent.
- Add Constituent Code “Fundraiser” with start date.
- Add link to social media platform profile under “Contact Information” – “Online Presence” under the category of Facebook.
- OPTIONAL: Under personal info add birthday—the day the birthday fundraiser began.
- Mark as Fundraiser
- for now, we do this through Database view—check the “is a solicitor” box on Bio Tab 1, bottom right.
- Link to user account (usually self)
- Add Fundraiser to Fundraising Tile
- Assign to a Fundraiser (usually self)
- Fundraiser Type (ex. Facebook)
- Assignment starts and end date.
- Reason for Assignment
- Include link to fundraiser page if applicable.
- Enter Goal Amount, Campaign (Don), Fund (usually unrestricted donation), and Appeal (type in Fac and it will populate Facebook donations)
- Gives “Thanks” for starting fundraiser on social media platform and give it an appropriate background. Check the person’s profile page for general indication of what is appropriate.
- At end of Fundraiser / when receive gift
- Thank again for Fundraising, either online or via mail
This ends the beginning process which assists with the data entry import (We use Omatic) as the campaign ID is really helpful to match to.
We hard credit the donor and soft credit the person who ran the fundraiser. This allows us to report on the amount raised per that particular person/fundraising campaigns. Soft credits in our world are anyone who deserves some credit for us receiving a donation.
Again, prolly a bit over the top, but thought i would share in case helpful…
