Education Edge and Raiser’s Edge

Is there a way to migrate information from Education Edge to Taiser’s Edge NXT. Things such as grandparent information, student activities and class schedules?

Here is my reason to ask starting w/grandparents. We send out a form through School divisions but I wonder if it makes it to NXT or other areas we use of Blackbaud. The student activities and schedules would help us know the future alumni better as well as communicate when a faculty member retires or wins an award.

I just have to believe there is a way to breakdown the silos between these managers and systems. Help!!!???

  • Raiser’s not Taiser’s

  • @Dennis Ring Are your databases linked? Ours aren't, which necessitates the maintanance of two databases.

  • @Dennis Ring If you are linked you can use Blackbaud's Connect RE, but be very careful. It will write over many things in RE. We use ImportOmatic to bring in what we want in the format we want.

  • @Therese Morris is right. Connect RE is a great tool, however, if you use it, please keep in mind that the information flows only one way from Core (EE) to Raiser's Edge. I've seen people spend time updating information in RE only run Connect RE and have all of their work undone. If you choose to go this route, be sure to update the information in Core first.

Are you actually using Education Edge or Blackbaud's K-12 solutions or whatever they call it now? I think it is called Core. My guess is the latter, unless you are self-hosted, because Blackbaud ended support for EE a little over a year ago AND removed access to it.

If it is the newer product, Connect RE is the only native way to migrate the information. I would do A LOT of reading and testing, because as as Tina said, it is a one-way sync and will change data in RE if it is not in Core. You'll also need to be very careful when you do the initial sync. This may not impact you, but if you had two individuals who were married and their records linked together in RE, but did not sync them from Core in the same session, RE would change their relationship and reciprocal to “ex-spouse”. It may have removed the “is Spouse” checkbox as well.

There were a lot of other issues at the school where I tried to use it, but it did not work well for us at all. It will change a lot of your processes outside of the database, so make sure you iron those out before moving ahead.

@Dennis Ring One other thing to consider if you would like more control over the data and how these records are updated/created would be using a third party import tool such as Importomatic from Omatic, Importacular from Zeidman Development, SmartTHING or JMG. These tools offer more options in matching records, setting import standards, etc. and can make large and re-occurring import projects much easier.
