Donor Re-designation of Funds

Hello , Im looking for some pointers on how to handle a re-desigination of funds by a donor. We have a donor who previously donated money ( about 100 gifts ) with a specific restriction and now would like to release those funds to our current campaign. I would like those funds to show up in our current campaign totals ? any ideas on how to handle this in RE ?

First questions:
Are the gifts posted to your GL?
Does it happen to be a named fund where this person is the only donor?

If answers, are ‘no’ and ‘yes,’ respectively, it might not be that hard. You might even be able to do a global change.

If the gifts are posted, you could possibly ‘unpost’, change fund, mark posted but am guessing finance office would not just want that done as they will want record of the change. That many gifts sounds like they may span several FYs.

Manually adjusting each gift would be a lengthy process for that many gifts. Might be the only option. Will see what else the knowledgeable folks here post.

@Garth George As JoAnn stated, these gifts can be globally changed if they are not posted (or even if they are, they can be unposted), but if your finance department wants to know the reason, you can put that in a gift reference, since you cannot globally adjust gifts. Adjusting gifts can only be done one at a time and doing that for 100 gifts seem way to time consuming and a waste of someone's time.

@Garth George Do you have to redesignate them at all? I don't know if it's more of an accounting issue where the funds could be transferred, because the funds were attributed appropriately at the time of the donation. This seems like it does not necessarily need to be changed unless it's something that you need for internal reports.

This is tough, because you want to record where the gift was originally allocated, but you still want to show the change. As @Joe Moretti and @JoAnn Strommen mentioned, that's a lot of manual adjustments. I just think there is a better way…

@Joe Moretti I wish this could be done in native RE, but you can globally adjust gifts with third party tools (I know Importacular from Zeidman Development does this and I think Importomatic from Omatic may as well). Last I was aware, the Importacular option was available with any support package, but not for free users. Might be worth using for a large quantity though!
