Suggestions for tracking preferred pronouns

Hi everyone. I'm searching for ways to track preferred pronouns on a record. How are other organizations managing this?

@Jovana SanchezMelendez We created a customization for “Special Information,” which can be used for a variety of things, including pronouns. We expose it at the top of the constituent's Personal, Contact, and Relationships tabs, because the information can apply to anything on these tabs. If someone requests a gender or title change, we can record it here too. I would also say that the pronouns are not “preferred.” They are simply a person's pronouns.

Would you be able to share the logic of the customization? Did someone on staff create it or did you work with BB developers? Are there other details that you display here other than pronouns? Also, where is the table accessed?

@Jovana SanchezMelendez Our own developers created the custom table, and we are happy to share code. Feel free to email me at kelli dot crispin at unc dot edu, and I'll make the connection with our developers.

We have a variety of Areas (categories) for the information, such as Gender, Title, Name, and Pronouns, but we also have Areas such as Name, Address, Constituency, etc. for whenever there is something that doesn't conform to our data standards or something that needs to be emphasized so people are aware. The Area field has a code table that can be updated as needed. We have a number of data cleanup scripts that run nightly, and we can use the Special Information entries as exclusions. For example, we have someone who prefers their name be in all lower case, instead of proper case. A Special Info entry for Name excludes that person from the script that would proper case the name.
