Help with Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance (DMARC) policy

Hi,

I just received this email from Blackbaud. Can anyone translate what this means for me and/or tell me if this even pertains to Altru users?

Thanks!

Tamara

"As part of Blackbaud’s commitment to your success, we keep abreast of industry best practices and wanted to make you aware of upcoming email authentication best practices that Gmail and Yahoo! Mail will begin enforcing in February 2024. These changes are part of an ongoing industry effort to enforce best practices for authenticating and verifying emails and include having a Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance (DMARC) policy which allows a sender to indicate that their messages are protected by Domain Keys Identified Mail (DKIM) authentication and/or Sender Policy Framework and tells a receiver what to do if neither of those authentication methods passes.

Your organization must review your current email authentication configurations with your DNS provider. You may need to take action to meet the new requirements to ensure your emails continue to be delivered successfully.

Beginning in February 2024 Gmail and Yahoo! Mail (and all email domains supported by Yahoo! Mail, like AOL) will route emails that do not meet the new best practice requirements to “Junk” and “SPAM” and/or reject the emails outright which will reduce your ability to reach your constituents using bulk emails.

Review your email configurations

Prior to February 2024, your organization must ensure your emails use DKIM to authenticate. Use this Knowledgebase article to determine if you have DKIM in place:

  • If you do NOT have DKIM in place; follow the steps in this Knowledgebase article before February 2024 to ensure your emails continue to be accepted by mailbox providers for delivery.
  • If you already use DKIM; no additional action is needed.

We wanted to make you aware of this upcoming change from Gmail and Yahoo! Mail (and all email domains supported by Yahoo! Mail) so that you have time to take any necessary action.

Thank you for your continued partnership and all you do to impact the world.

Blackbaud"
