Auto Logout Consistency(?)

I gotta ask folks: “Is it me?”

I like to work, as I suspect many of us do, with several browser tabs open to BEM.

It seems like often, even if I am active in one of those tabs, I get unceremoniously dumped out of BEM in the active tab and it demands I reenter my username and pwd. And it doesn't matter what I was doing. (i.e. sometimes I get dumped in the middle of a gnarly operation).

I suspect it's because another of my tabs is inactive.

AND YET…..

I just came back to work (after a wonderful 2-week XMAS/NY break, thank you ;-) … switched over to one of my old active BEM tabs…and IT WORKED! As if I'd never left. No credentials needed!

So in one case, the system seems to be overly scrupulous about security. [shouldn't have dumped me in the initial case]…and in the other case, it's too lax.

Am I doing something wrong? Can't things be more consistent?

What are your experiences?

Thanks [for listening ;-) ]

@john ronan Yikes, let's get to the root of this. I've noticed the same, but I thought my account was extra weird because I'm a Blackbaud user. Thank you for bringing this to the surface so we can investigate!

I need your help, though. To any who see this message and experience timeout inconsistencies, please open a Support case so they can help us log which pages are open on the various tabs so we can begin to identify the culprit. For a developer (on my team) to open a bunch of tabs and wait for logouts would be a painfully slow research process. Collective reporting will get us more information more quickly. We appreciate the time you take to send this data to Support, thereby maximizing speed toward resolution!

  • @Jessi Walters - My Academics > Grades > Report card setup did not time out after 12 hours overnight.

  • @john ronan I have this experience frequently as well! @Jessi Walters I will do my best to report. Auto logout INconsistency is how I will report.

  • @Jessi Walters - Two different occurrences:

    1. Academics > Home (on Edge browser)
    2. Academics > Grades > Report card setup > Report cards (on Chrome browser)

I should also note that yesterday's report was on Edge.

Happens to me all the time! My favorite is when I'm in the middle of making changes, click save and it brings me to the login page.

  • @Jessi Walters Will open a Support case this afternoon with more details but just got logged out while I was active on a Core screen. In Chrome had following open tabs:

    • K12 Core - actively using; on a user's record
    • K12 Core - school forms page open
    • Tuition Mgmt - had been active shortly before got logged out; last few days noticed that even though Tuition Mgmt logged me out for inactivity, my K12 tabs stayed active
    • RE NXT - had been inactive for a while

A version of this happens fairly often unfortunately so appreciate you trying to find the culprit!

  • @Jessi Walters and others, thanks very much for the attention to this matter!

I've been away for a while, but will gladly be on the lookout for this.

Were you receiving an error message saying, “error loading context”? We'd have to solve the reCAPTCHA puzzle and then log in again.
