How can I use opportunities for multi-year funding?

We are currently using opportunities to track our grant processes and we want to be able to link the gift to the opportunities. However, where we don't receive the money all in one go, we can only mark the most recent gift for the amount funded. Is there a way to get around this? We'd particularly like to use it for multi-year funders. TIA

@Naomi Jervis Would it help for you to enter the funding as a Pledge or Recurring Gift with multiple payments attached to it? That may not work for your internal rules, but theoretically, you could link the Opportunity to the Pledge or Recurring Gift and then that gift would be linked to each of the payments.

@Naomi Jervis Not sure if this helps your situation, but in Database View, you link as many gifts to a proposal/Opportunity and it will update the Funded Amount.

@Joe Moretti yes, you can link multiple gifts. Our experience has been though that the Funded amount just displays the last amount. It doesn't seem to be adding gifts up for us. ???? This was done by another staff member when linking gift to prop/opp in gift batch. Did they miss something?

@JoAnn Strommen It does add the gifts up to update the Funded Amount. You just have to make sure you link the newest gift. I even did an example for you with 2 $500 gifts and it updated the amount funded to $1000. You do have to make sure with the future gifts that you are linking the most recent one. But it works. after the first gift, when the next one comes in, you need to make sure choose NEW LINKED GIFT

@Christine Robertson I prefer entering the funding as a pledge, too, but if I don't have a written pledge agreement/schedule, I am unable to due to internal requirements and have to link them separately as Joe has shown.
