Does Online Express require a CVV number when supporters donate via a website online donation page?

@Jessica Thomas - Yes, CVV is a requirement for credit card. You have the ability to offer other payment options though through Blackbaud Checkout, like digital wallets, paypal and venmo.

@Austen Brown Thank you so much. Also, is there any alternative than these payment options. I don't know if they would be the best fit for our organisation. Most of our donors are older and we are making their donation on their behalf, so we only have their card details.

(Un?)fortunately, you won't be able to process the payment with a card in BBMS, or thus OLX, without the CVV number. However, possibly your organization has other options. I know for example that even though we process credit cards through OLX, our Business Office also has a card reader from our bank, which requires a zip code rather than the CVV. They use this frequently for processing on-campus student payments, employee purchases, etc.

The ideal situation will be to call your donors and obtain the CVV codes from them. (Think of it as an opportunity for building donor relations through outreach … glass is half full!) But since some donors don't have phone numbers, you might need to get creative with the remainder.

@Jessica Thomas If you are making the gift on their behalf have you considered a db view gift batch in RE? If you have OLX, I'm assuming you have BBMS/EFT. Do you have EFT module?

Whether or not you enter card info Bio2 tab or just create a gift batch is up to you. (I prefer entry on Bio2 if I anticipate repeat gifts.) Gifts can be processed thru EFT module without CVV.

Hi JoAnn. Sorry if I have misunderstand what you said but I'm not trying to only record the donation but actually make a bank transaction. So I am trying to transfer money from their bank to our bank account. If this makes any sense? Please let me know if it does not.

Thank you for responding Faith! My question about CVV numbers was more so to find out a payment method that makes it quicker and easier for donors to donate online. The majority of our supporters do fill out their CVV number.

JoAnn suggestion is for charging the donor credit card. RE database view does have a EFT process for charging and recording the transaction. But it is a manual offline process.

If you are looking for an online process that is donor driven, most if not all platform will require cvv. Unless, you create your own using merchant account API (some allows for no cvv in the API )

@Jessica Thomas Yes, credit card transactions can be created, processed and would be recorded in RE using db view if you have the EFT module and are using BBMS.

If these are monthly transactions you can create a batch to use each month or a query. While you have to manually enter the card info at least once if you use Bio2, it's just a matter of running a batch using generate transactions and create EFT transmission file.
