Raiser's Edge VS RE NXT

Hello all, I am trying to gather some information on the difference between RE vs RE NXT. I heard that List in RE NXT is static not dynamic. If you have any information, could you reply below? Thanks so much!

I think there are other discussion on the community before, but hard to search for this specific topic i guess.

List on RE NXT is not “static”, RE NXT list is “dynamic” though it does lag and have a refresh timer, which you can read more about here: https://webfiles-sc1.blackbaud.com/files/support/helpfiles/rex/content/bb-web-database-view-sync.html?Highlight=list%20refresh

List is not the same as Query or Export in database view, compare to them, List on webview is a lot less powerful in that you cannot filter or output all the potentially filterable/outputable field that Query/Export can do in database view, however, it does have some nice features that Query/Export doesn't have (i.e. mapping feature).

If you want to use filtering (more granular) as in the database view, you CAN base a webview list on a query in database view, and do the filtering in the db query, HOWEVER, the query must be static.

It might help if everyone had some clarity on why you are looking for information. Are you currently on RE7 and looking to move to RENXT? Do you already have RENXT and no one uses it, so you are trying to understand why?

RENXT provides two views of your data: database view and webview. Database view is likely to operate exactly the same as previous versions of RE, assuming that you are up to date. Webview offers some newer functionality, new fields (that don't write back to database view) and some fields are brought to the surface in a more prevalent way.

Specific questions, and an explanation of where your request is coming from, would help people be able to provide some helpful answers.

I find this article helpful to refresh what's what between the two: What are the differences between Database View and NXT Web View? (blackbaud.com)

It also contains some additional helpful links. I refer to this link all the time: Glossary of database to web view terms and translations (blackbaud.com)
