Upgradable Tickets

My organization has a ticketed event where there are general admission tickets and VIP tickets. The event planners are inquiring about the database' s ability to ‘upgrade’ a ticket from GA to VIP at the door. I know there is no direct way to do an upgrade like this, but I'm wondering if any users have found a work around to this issue. Is there a better way to initially set up ticket types to support upgrades?

  • @Clara Dawson Do you have it set up as an event or a scheduled program? This might work if it is an event - you can add in the VIP registration type options and then if guests would like to upgrade you switch out their registration type and it should look for payment for the difference. Without being able to test it though, I'm not sure. I do know they can only be registered once so you can't do an additional ticket and that would double-count people anyway. Possibly another choice would be to have the VIP upgrade set up as merchandise or an add-on.

Thanks for your insight! This is actually set up as a program, not event sorry for the confusion. We'll be hosting a series of these so a program was the best format.

I also thought about doing an upgrade via merchandise but the ticket count won't accurately reflect the number of VIP vs GA folks we have (VIP has a capped limit for spatial reasons). I would consider this option if the database had the ability to change ticket types once a constituent has purchased a ticket for a programs but I don't think that's possible.
