How can parents go back and edit a school form?

Our parents have a few forms to fill out. Sometimes they need to go back and add more information, but it seems like the form is marked as completed and can not be opened up again. How can I keep this form open so parents can update or add information?

Thank you,

Rachel

  • @Rachel Butler you can go into list of submitted forms and, under that parent's form, select “allow resubmit”

  • @Coco ParhamThank you. I don't see what you are referring to. How do I get to that spot? I have tried Core- User- select the parent- then Files and Forms where I can see the completed forms. I don't see a spot to select “allow resubmit”. Am I not in the right spot?

  • @Coco ParhamOk, I just found the spot. Can I turn on “allow resubmit” for everyone who has the form? I want all parents to be able to edit this form throughout the year, as needed. Can it just be part of the form automatically?

Also, will the parent get a notification that the form can be accessed again, after I click on “allow resubmit”?

  • @Rachel Butler I don't think the forms work that way. Once a parent submits it, that's it. I thought you wanted a parent to make one change and re-submit. That is what I use allow resubmit for. You might have to make a new form for each time you need it, which is too labor intensive. If you do select allow resubmit, the banner appears in their account but unless you have the settings set to send out an email reminder, you need to email the parent the form has been re-opened.

Maybe you can do a form for fall, winter and spring updates? Not sure what else to do for what you need the form for.

  • @Rachel Butler Depending on the edit permissions you gave parents, and the kind of information collected on the form, parents may be able to edit the information directly from their or their student's record. If it is a blank form where information lives only on the form, then the form is the only way to edit, but if it is a form like a profile update or emergency contact update, you may be able to set up the parent's permissions so that they can update their information without needing the form.

Generally, if it's something I want parents to be able to view and update, I try to make sure it's part of a field on their record, but that's not always possible given the limitations on custom fields.
