Showing LUNCH on student schedules

Hey folks -

We like to have lunch appear on student schedules. In the past, what we've done is created an activity called lunch and added all students to it, but much later while doing data cleanup, we get stuck with users we can't delete or edit because they are part of these groups/activities, even 3-4 years later.

To anyone who shows lunch on student “My Day” views… how do you do it and how do you keep it as easy as possible?

Thanks!

Dave

@David Sartory - We have two lunch periods (9th and 10th together, 11th and 12th together).

We have two Lunch classes as academic classes (ungraded, no credit, of course). The courses are named for the class periods: Lunch 5 and Lunch 6. One section for each course.

We do this for a couple of reasons.

    • Our lunch is required, with assigned seating. Attendance is taken. Skipping is an attendance infraction, so we want to track attendance like other classes.
    • The person building schedules puts students into the single section of the appropriate lunch period early in the process. Because it is an academic class, when schedules are generated students schedules are built around the lunch periods.

We don't delete student records, so have a record for enrollment in Lunch not a problem. It is no different than a record for any other course. When students withdraw mid-year, they are dropped from all courses - including lunch.
