Generating a report with cumulative grades

Is it possible to create a report/list showing cumulative grades from 9-12 for a particular course/dept?

I received a request from the Social Studies department asking for a report showing the cumulative grades or GPA students have in the classes for that dept only. The idea is to have those averages from 9-12 to choose the students for an academic award.

Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi @Gian Toyos -

Yes, this is possible! However, it's all going to depend on what grade value you specifically want to pull.

If you are looking for Final grades of those students, or any grades that would otherwise appear on Report Cards / Transcripts, you'll want to use the Report Card Grades List. In the filters, you can select which years and departments you want to include in the output.

In a similar vein, if you're looking for Gradebook Grades instead, you can use the Gradebook Grades List to achieve a similar result.

Both lists can be accessed in Academics > Grading > Report Card Grades List or Gradebook Grades List.

To get a student's average of these grades over their 9-12 grade career, you'll need to use Excel to get that specific piece of information.

  • @Michael Morrissette thanks for the response.

I just started as a Registrar and creating such a specific report is giving me a headache. I have tried using the Gradebook/Report Card grade list reports, but the problem that I encounter is that after choosing the parameters I want, no reports appear at all. Perhaps somewhere, there's an option that must be selected for them to appear and is not selected. I have tried different years, selecteing all the options, etc, but still no results. That's where I'm stuck.

  • @Gian Toyos did you ever get this to work? I am in the same situation. I am a gradebook manager and trying to run reports for specific teachers/departments and no grades are generating. When I run the “Grades by course grade level” report for “geometry” course… I can see all of the sections and the students enrolled, but no grades are calculating on the report. (yes, I do have Gradebook manager access)

Can Report Card Grades List actually pull multiple years at once, or am I misunderstanding your post?

    Hi @Michael Clark -

The list can only pull a single year at a time. So, to get 4 years worth of data, you'd need to run the list 4 times and then combine the results in something like Excel.

  • @Ashley Falloure I could not find a way to get the GPA for a specific department without having to use Excel, as previously explained. The teacher calculated the ones he needed by hand.
