Differentiated student schedules within one course

Hello,

We want to be able to utilize the student tracker to locate where a student may be at any time of the day.

For academic classes, the Find Me Now feature works great.

Outside of academics, many of our students have clinical services (school-provided), like LAS, OT, etc.

Right now, these clinical services are set up as courses that have a generic time range for the whole school day. But each student has different times:

Speech Therapy 1 (one course)

  • Student 1: Mondays 8:30 - 9:00 AM
  • Student 2: Wednesdays 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM
  • Student 3: Wednesdays 2:00 PM - 2:30 PM

Speech Therapy 2 (one course)

  • Student 4: Tuesdays 8:30 - 9:00 AM
  • Student 5: Tuesdays 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM
  • Student 6: Thursdays 2:00 PM - 2:30 PM

etc.

Is there an easy way to have that information be integrated into the student's schedule? The difficulty I'm facing is how, within one course/service, students can have different cycles.

@Nathan Ong - We do something similar to what you described with private music lessons. A student meets one-on-one with a teacher for one class period per rotation.

The process was tedious to set up, but it's not too hard to reset for each year.

In Academics > Scheduling > Schedule Outline, I created a separate block for each class meeting in a rotation (Letter days A - G, with period 1 - 8 each day). I then created an Activity schedule set that specified when each of those blocks meet. [Those steps are the tedious part.]

I then created an Activity called Fine Arts Private Lessons. Each meeting between a student and a teacher is a section of that activity, with all of the relevant information (schedule block, location, teacher, student). In our case, the activity is ungraded and attendance is not recorded.

Depending on how many meetings you're dealing with, the initial data can be entered manually or by import. Changes can be handled in Academics > Scheduling > Requests and schedules, then Activities, then Set section info.

This puts the meeting on the schedule for both the student and the teacher.

When you create the sections, make a bunch of extra ones that you can use later in the year. The extra sections can sit empty until needed.
