Online Express- process a donation that was supposed to be an event registration

I have a constituent that “registered” for an event on a donation page. I am struggling with how to process this gift as the fund they added doesn't exist. Any ideas?

i'm assuming you are talking about online express donation form as well.

when you go into the processing of transaction in RE > OE, you can search for and update the fund to an existing fund that matches to what donor put in (i do not recommend letting donor type in anything they want as fund/designation b/c of this). If nothing match, you will need to process as per finance or development policy on what to do, i.e. is it create new fund? does it automatically goes to an existing one like unrestricted, or reach out to donor

@Megan Neumann - I would create a new fund temporarily. Once the gift is downloaded into a batch, you can update the coding according to your gift entry standard for registration fees and link the gift to the donor's participant record. After the gift is committed, go back to the ‘temp fund’ record and delete it.
