Unable to delete Custom Admin Fields on Courses or Sections

Has anyone else ran into an issue where you can't delete custom admin fields that have been configured to the course or section? I've verified that the fields I created and added to either course or section has been removed. However, when I go to delete the field it still shows locked. This is the second time that has happened to me and each time I have to reach out to support.
