Donor retention comparing Q1 to Q1 - anyone found a workaround to produce in RE

CEO has asked for a dashboard with retention by quarter. I know I can manually figure it with queries but I would think it would be an available dashboard.

???? Any suggestions?

this isn't easy.. and I don't think there's already an existing report or dashboard to show this.

First: what is “retention”? donor of 2023 (full year) retained in Q1 2024? or donor of Q1 2023 retained in Q1 2024?

once that is established, then it is about getting the data and create a dashboard. The simplest is excel, so you output data from query in db, then use excel forumla that summarize # of donor of previous (either full year or same quarter) that is retained in the quarter. then graphs in excel. This is more manual, though you can make it easier to update by using same formatted data column from a saved query export, then always copy and paste into the excel, the formula and graph will auto-refresh

If you feel advanturous, you can try to do Power BI or other visualization tool such as Tableau, which addtional steps later on can lead to an auto-refreshed report for your executives.
