Unintentional - All Parents Marked Do Not Contact

Hello all about a month ago I noticed that when adding the “Parents Wireless Number” field to a Student List none of the parent's wireless numbers showed up. I as tipped off by support that the reason for this was that all of my parents were marked “No Contact” in their relationship to their students. I am very skeptical of these check boxes being marked intentionally and i am curious if anybody else has experienced this or has any idea how this may have happened.

to correct this error I am worried about a hierarchical relationship import creating duplicate relationships in Core. Would very much appreciate any insight into correcting the records.
