Recording & Reporting on Planned Giving

Seeking advise! Organization is starting to receive more interest in planned giving and some people who have submitted information about their intentions. The organization has the planned giving module, and leadership is wanting to see reporting on it. Seeking advice, what is the best way to record it in RE using the Planned Giving module? Should we add the expected dollar amount the donor is anticipating on giving? Or should we record $1 as the placeholder? Thanks in advance!

We have not yet brought planned giving to the web view. I am going to move this question to the general area as I think feedback from peers is the best answer here for best practices. You will be able to get ideas from multiple orgs on how they approach the process.

Hi Lanetta,

I see you mentioned your org has the planned gift module. Planned gifts records in RE are a bit like other kinds of unrealized commitment records, such as pledges or proposals. By which I mean you can and should enter the expected amount of the overall planned gift when you become aware of a credible planned gift. Then when the realized gift actually comes it, you enter a gift record that you then link/apply to the main Planned gift.

If you don't enter the expected amounts, you won't be able to track, project or report on planned gifts properly. There are built in reports that get added to your reports tab when you have the Planned Gift module.

I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I've linked the RE manual for Planned Gifts in case it is helpful for you to peruse for details on the way data entry is intended to work for the module.

My org has a documented protocol and process for Planned Giving I'd be happy to share if you would find that helpful. But large parts of it are a regurgitation of the manual below.

Hi Evelyn, I have attached the step-by-step guide from BB as a PDF and copied my previous school's Planned Gift process and procedure, and attached it as a Word doc.
