I saw Friday's blog post about the SKY API free tier changes.

Want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly….

The post says a new SKY API Free Developer tier is coming in 2025. It will support 1,000 API calls a day.

There's a free tier today, so it sounds like what's new is just the lower usage cap, yes? Unless I'm missing something.

On the free tier today, we can make 25,000 calls a day.

Some questions on this….

Am I reading this right, that the free tier is being reduced to 4% of its current usage limits?
This page lists two paid subscription tiers for SKY API. The usage limits are 100,000 and 250,000 calls a day.
- Are those being reduced to 25,000 and 100,000?
- Will the prices change?
Do the new usage limits apply to Power Automate SKY API connections?
The article says that current Standard API subscribers can keep using it after the new limits are in place. Is that indefinite, or is there a timeline when those grandfathered-in subscribers will need to upgrade if they want to keep their usage cap?
Edit: It looks like both the Free and Customer tiers will only support 10 connected organizations….Is that right?
- Does that mean only a Partner will be able to have more than 10 schools connect to their app?
- What is the cap for those on the free tier today, and will it remain the same?

Hey Eric,

Thanks for your question! I was able to get more clarity for you today.

First, we need to point out that the reduced API quota doesn’t affect customers or partners. To ensure no change in quotas, those developers need to make sure they are associated with a team so that you get the correct limits.

If you’re not on a partner or customer team, the API quotas are changing.

Also, this change doesn't impact users of the Microsoft Power Platform app in the Blackbaud Marketplace. Users of that app don't require their own SKY API subscription.

If you're an organization that is trying to reach multiple customers, we encourage you to join the Partner Program to receive the increased API limits as well as other benefits, such as the ability to list your app in the Blackbaud Marketplace.

Information can be found on the Partner program website.

Lastly, I do want to note that if you are a current Standard API subscriber, you can keep the current API quota limit. We don't have plans to change that.
