Closed Gradebook Functionality

Soon, we are going to be pilot a closed gradebook, meaning we will hide cummulative grades to parents or students. Has anyone found ways to get around the limited functionality? We would love to be able to open our gradebooks over the weekend, or at set times throughout the school year. Any ideas??

  • @Colleen Wheaton, I'm not sure what you mean about limited functionality, but it is possible in Academic > Grades > Grading Setup > Gradebook Setting > Marking Period & Grade Access to set viewability of grades rather granularly. Each school division and academic year can be set separately. Within a set school division and academic year, each gradebook marking column can be set separately. Within each marking column, you can set rights individually for Teachers, Advisors, Parents, Students, etc. You can also give teachers the ability on their own to show or hide grades to Parents/Teachers. For each role, it is also broken down further where you can specifically hide/unhide assignment grades, assignment comments, marking period cumulative gradebook grades, and school year cumulative gradebook grades.

I'm not certain exactly what problem you are trying to resolve by hiding grades from parents/students at certain times and whether there are other solutions, but the above instructions should permit you to achieve the hiding you want within Academics.
