Receipt Series - reusing numbers vs unique numbers

In the leadup to the rollout of RE NXT receipting in Web view, I recall hearing a few times in product update sessions that a key different between Series and Stacks is that each Series should use a unique numbering system (ex different starting numbers), unlike Stacks where we can (and do) reuse numbers between separate Stacks.

Everything I've seen in documentation (ex here) about Series mentions using separate numbering/not reusing, but it's unclear to me whether this is a must, or just a recommendation to help organize, on top Series prefixes which will already be unique and IMHO are sufficient. Not sure if there's something about Series which is problematic for Canadian tax receipting.

Can anyone confirm whether we can just stick with unique prefixes?
