Editing an online pledge payment to a non-pledge payment

Hello,

We had a donor make an online credit card donation that was intended for a specific program but was entered as a pledge payment. How do I go about removing it from the pledge?

I saw other posts about zeroing it out and creating a new gift. Can I still do this when the payment came in via online with a credit card? Thank you!

when you say “online” you mean from the RE NXT donation form?

also, you said “entered as a pledge payment”. if RE NXT donation form, it doesn't need to be “entered” so I find that conflicting to what you are saying, or do you mean after the gift has been approved in the webview batch, someone went and applied the gift to pledge as payment?

if so, then you will have to zero the gift as Blackbaud does not allow gift to be deleted, and enter a new gift.

If NOT RE NXT donation form, and the gift is manually batched/entered into RE, then you can just delete the gift (provided that the gift is NOT posted yet) and reenter.

@Alex Wong yes! The gift came in via donation form and when it was approved it was applied to the pledge. I wasn't sure if I could zero it out and enter a new gift without causing issues since it came in via online donation form. Thank you again for your help!

for now it is not going to cause a problem. But this may be an issue in the future as the gift is “somehow” tie (from the payment information's BBMS transaction ID) to BBMS, but this affect will more be something that will affect how BBMS may locate the RE gift, not RE gift affecting BBMS.

@Anthony Gallo this is brought to your attention before too and was talking about why a gift may need to be deleted. This is another case, since gift type can't be reverted from pledge payment back to cash.

I might need some more details here. The online donation forms do not allow for pledge payments to be created from them and that isn't in our plans coming up with the release of automated pledges. My question would be, how did this payment get created and how did it get linked to the pledge as a payment?

Helping Cameron answer here, if not correct, please correct me:

1. donation made on RE NXT donation form
2. transaction added to RE NXT webview batch
3. webview batch is approved, “Cash” (One-time Donation) gift record created
4. in dbview someone was told to applied this “cash” gift to a pledge, and turning the gift from “Cash” to “Pay-cash”
5. later, the org found out the gift is not meant to be a pledge payment but a new “cash” donation.

Yeah, we really do not currently have an option for this process in the web or even in database view.

There is a KB with instructions but they are what was already mentioned.
There is also an idea in our portal we are tracking for a potential enhancement.

You could create a pledge for the “specific program" and then re-apply the Pay-Cash gift to THAT pledge.
