Query to find all constituents assigned to a check number

Hi, new to RENXT (1 month).?

I need to search for donors who have a check number in common. I understand i need a query, yet is there a way to narrow it down to check number pulled?

Should I be using the database view?

I would appreciate someone's wisdom. Please and thank you!!!!

@Gabriella Robledo welcome to RENXT! You can query on check number in database view or web view. In query, Go to the Gifts field, check number. You can also create a query and then use export function and export the check numbers. What are you looking for? a specific check number within a certain date period or something else?

I get stuck on the output. I need to have a specific fund and check number to have all matching constituents populate. I have endless options, but i am not selecting the correct ones.

@Gabriella Robledo it sounds like you need to put your query into an export to get the info you need.

@Gabriella Robledo I think there's some more questions to this. Explain the scenario for us so we can best assist? I don't know if you need to create an export per se, but you need to have an understanding of how the data is in the system. Was this a group gift where the same check was put on multiple records, or is it a soft credit thing?

I think a gift query might be easier, depending on how the data was entered. There should not be that many nuances to a query on a check number that should have a lot of results.

@Gabriella Robledo I've done a similar search in query numerous times. As @Dariel Dixon said, use a gift query. Criteria > Check number equals XXX. You can reduce number of results by using a date range in the criteria.

Output those fields and the fund. Sort by fund if needed. Unless you have a check entered as payment on a lot of records the results should be fairly narrow.

As many have said already, Gift Query (webview is perfectly fine here, no need to go to dbview): criteria: check number equals XXX AND fund ID (or description) equals what you looking for.
