What’s New: K12 Product Updates For March 7

We’re now into March and that means the latest release for the K-12 “ON” Products is finally upon us. Also known as 13.03, this release includes a number of new features for products like onBoard, onCampus, and onRecord. We’re also introducing updates to Lists as well as an important change to Blackbaud’s password policies.


Here’s just a few of the big things coming on March 7 in release 13.03:

Core: Passwords now required to be more secure. On March 5, Blackbaud began enforcing stricter password parameters for users who don’t meet the updated requirements. All passwords going forward must:

• be at least 8 characters long,
• include at least 1 number, 
• and be different from the user's previous 3 passwords (reuse = 3)

A platform manager can immediately require all users of the 'ON' products, to use passwords that meet these requirements, as of their next login. Do this from Core > Settings > Security > Password Parameters. Select the All School (All users) role then the parameters that meet or exceed the minimum requirements. Once set, save your changes.

onBoard: Community Feedback Contract Updates. Community feedback is paramount for us here at Blackbaud and we love it when we’re able to add highly requested features. For this release, we’re adding in a couple of user requested features for Contract Lists in onBoard.


Admissions managers now have a Financial Aid option that can be added as a column option, which displays the aid type as well as the total amount. One thing to keep in mind with this addition is that the amount doesn’t appear if the financial aid task is unchecked in an existing or cloned role.


The other big addition to Contract Lists is the Pending Final Accept(s) filter. Applying this changes the results to only display contracts that are waiting for one or both signatures from a responsible signer.

onCampus: Manage Files on Shared or Imported Topics. Group owners can now manage audio, video, photos, and other file types for previously shared or imported Topics. This update also applies to group owners that copy other owner’s Topics as well as owners who import their own Topics between different sections or terms.
