Required CVV on February 2, 2027 - Existing Recurring Gifts

There's been an update with credit card transactions! According to the blackbaud article, "CVV will now become required for all credit card transactions with RENXT on February 2, 2027."

Do we know if that means that existing current recurring gifts will need their CVV information updated in order for their transactions to be processed after February 2, 2027? If that's the case, what are everyone's communication plan with sustaining recurring gift donors?

Hi @Anne Ko I did hear back from my team. They said requiring CVV aligns with industry best practices and helps strengthen the protection of donor payment information. As you plan for this change, we encourage you to consider more secure alternatives to collecting card details, such as using QR codes or online donation forms. We are developing best practice resources and other tools to help you refine your CVV processes. More information on those resources will be communicated soon.

Is there a process in place to add the CVV to existing recurring gifts? Currently, it appears we can only update the credit card number and expiration date. Even if we were to collect CVV information from our current donors—which we should avoid—we would not be able to update the gifts accordingly. Is Blackbaud expecting us to contact all our current donors and ask them to set up new recurring gifts online? I am concerned that this may result in some donors, particularly those who have maintained recurring gifts for years, choosing to discontinue their support.

@Rebecca Page I second this. Since RE NXT does not currently ask for CVV on recurring gift updates, how can we follow this best practice especially before the deadline next year. If we do need to contact all of our monthly donors we need months of advance notice as we have many to reach.
