Looking for 'giving dynamics' report data with household revenue combined

The giving dynamics report has some good information about donor retention and acquisition but, unfortunately, we're unable to use it to track those figures since it is based on individual giving. I'd like to create an ad hoc query with the revenue combined by household.

In order find the and accurate donor retention rate and donor acquisition rate for our organization, I need to be able to report on gifts grouped by household rather than by individual only. Of course if an individual is not park of a household, we need them to be included.

I have followed the steps in both of these articles and they do not provide what I need:
"I need to calculate Donor Retention Rate" https://kb.blackbaud.com/knowledgebase/articles/Article/99440
"Households or individuals without a household in query" https://kb.blackbaud.com/knowledgebase/articles/Article/188059

If anyone has been able to successfully build these ad hoc queries to have household revenue combined, please let me know! A screenshot of your query fields would be amazing.

Thanks!

  • Hi @Christina Joel - I am checking with my team on this!

  • Hi @Christina Joel I checked in with our Support team, and see there is a case open for this. The team is currently working through it, and I’ll continue to monitor things on my end to make sure you’re moving in the right direction!

  • Hi @Crystal Bruce,

Are you referring to a case open for me? If so, I just asked them to close it because there were too many misunderstandings about what I was asking for and the case has been open for over a month. 😞

  • Hi @Christina Joel

We are also looking for ways to report household recognition credit amounts. There is a smart field value for Household Revenue Amounts that I'm testing the 2026 and 2025 calendar year amounts. The smart field does not have a parameter for selecting the desired reporting filter, which might be a requirement for getting the best results.

  • @Kent Henderson I was playing around with the smart queries you can generate directly from the giving dynamics report but I was running into the same limitations on customizing the reporting filters and it seems limited in the type of results to display compared to the "normal" ad hoc queries. Otherwise, I think I am missing a step or two and it's difficult to set aside time to experiment! I'm trying to avoid the need to pull all those datasets separately (household vs. individual with no household).

Eventually, we are hoping to create a dashboard using OData / power query. I've been successful in creating some (very basic) membership status & retention dashboards.
