Mail Quick Letters and Merge Queries

I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience with Mail Quick Letters in Raisers Edge. I am working on FYE appeal lists with 5 segments. I attempted to run everything using Merge Queries but it wasn't working. I have existing queries that I use as "templates". I open them, click Save As, and change the criteria and create a brand new query. I was not able to use merge queries with any of them. I reached out to support and they recommended that I write brand new queries (and not use the old ones as my "base"). I switched gears and used Mail-Quick Letters. I created new queries and added all 5 queries as segments in the proper order. When I exported the data, the 5th segmentation had duplicate constituent records that appeared in Segment 1 or Segment 4. That has never happened to me before and I wanted to see if other users have experienced that.
