Why isn't a recurring gift payment allowed to be linked to an opportunity?

Question

When adding associated revenue to an opportunity, recurring gift payments do not display. Pledges, donations, matching gift claims, planned gifts and even event registrations are available types but not a payment on a recurring gift.

Does anyone know why this is?

I'm not sure I can explain the "why" part, but in my prior job, my organization was migrating from RE to CRM, BB Professional Services built a customization for us to allow exactly that behavior. That was way back in 2014. So you do have the option was modifying CRM to accomplish this.

I suppose the rationale would probably be along the lines of: Opportunities are associated with discrete solicitations. And a recurring gift is the opposite of that. But I agree with you. It would be preferable if they were supported OOB.
