Character limit on a custom text field?

Greetings All,

I'm building an online giving form in RE NXT for a personalized brick campaign, where donors pay for a brick and enter their inscription text in the same form submission. I'm mapping the inscription field to a Gift Custom Field so it lands directly on the gift record.

The issue: I need to cap the inscription field at a specific character count (to match our engraver's physical specs), but I can't find a way to set a max character length/validation rule on the custom field.

Has anyone found a workaround that actually enforces a limit, rather than just relying on the field label/instructions?

Appreciate any insight — happy to share what we land on for anyone else running a similar brick/paver campaign through RE NXT.

When we've run brick campaigns, we would provide an additional printed form for the brick specifying the character length.  This helped in two ways:

* It allowed the donor to visualize how the message would look on the brick. They would often make their own edits once they had an image of how the characters would be laid out.
* We could scan the form and attach to the record in case of a discrepancy

You could possibly set it up as part of the automated thank you message if necessary, or perhaps create a workflow.

I think that saving it to the gift record as a text is fine and smart, but we used the extra communication as an additional touchpoint.  Especially with bricks, as they are often used to memorialize or honor loved ones, so there is a great opportunity there.

I have no insight, but this sounds like something that belongs in the Idea Bank! It could be a useful setting in a lot of circumstances!
