Recurring Givers - tracking starting & stopping over the years

How are you all keeping track of Regular Donors that start and stop regular giving over the years?

Are you creating a new Constituency Code and ending it for each giving period? So that one donor might have multiple Regular Donor constituencies with start and stop dates?

Or is there a better way to do it? We need to be able to identify a brand new regular donor and a reactivated donor. (I've got a query that tells me if they previously had a Regular Gift).

Could you do something with a gift summary with gift type = recurring gift (i.e. the pledge), and operator greater than 1?

I have always relied solely on the status of the recurring gift. Whenever I come across a database where users have also added a constituent code, it is always out of date. There are either constituents who have active recurring gifts and no code, or do not have an active recurring gift but do have a code.

As a side note, this works extremely well when you are using RENXT's automated recurring gift functionality. If you are using another product to manage your recurring gifts and are importing them, this might be a little more complicated.

You can try to use Intelligence Tag, which is new and I haven't tried it myself. I believe you can use a query to determine if someone is to get the "Tag" or not, so with a constituent query, you can do this via summary of gift criteria. This can give you a tag such as "New Recurring Donor" or "Reactivated Recurring Donor" or others. You may need to learn more about Intelligence Tag and how "often" does it update, so to play around the "date" element of "when" someone is consider "new".

This is not something for which we use a constituent code. Several reasons; one which you cited.

Jack, yes I have a query that tells me if someone was previously a regular giver based on the summary of recurring gifts being > 1, I'm looking for something that tells me at a glance whether someone is new or reactivated.

Hi Alex, I checked out the tags, thank you. I can create a custom tag to do what I want. However - they can't be queried on (only used in lists). So I'm back to a query again, and maybe setting a custom field. My end goal is a Power BI report that lists counts of reactivated and brand new donors after campaign.

there are many methods if you dive into power platform:

power automate that automate the logic of your fundraising need and add/update/remove constituent code or constituent custom field
- do this if you must have a way to use RE NXT query to target a group of constituent
Power bi that runs a query to get a list of ID (system record id) that fits into the "tag" and do reporting / dashboarding that way
- do this if you do not need RE NXT querying
