We have noticed a new email bounce-back reason that began appearing around August and seems to be increasing this fall. It is becoming a growing concern for our school.
Recently, some emails sent to Gmail and Yahoo recipients have been bouncing back with the message:
"recipient address was suppressed due to customer policy".
Has anyone else seen an increase in this specific bounce-back message?
According to Blackbaud Support, these addresses are not blocked or suppressed within Blackbaud. They have indicated that the issue appears to be related to the recipient's email provider rather than anything on the Blackbaud side.
I am wondering whether the one-click unsubscribe feature that appears at the top of emails in Gmail and Yahoo could be contributing to this issue. Some of our recipients have tried adding our sending email address to their safe sender lists or "whitelisting" it, but that has not resolved the delivery problems.
Have other schools experienced an uptick in this type of bounce-back message? If so, have you identified the cause or found any successful resolutions?
Thank you for any insights you can share
