Important Update on Digital Wallets in Blackbaud Checkout

Important Update on Digital Wallets in Blackbaud Checkout

As we recently announced, Visa and MasterCard are joining forces to provide a one-click digital wallet solution that adheres to EMVCo’s new standard for EMV Secure Remote Commerce (SRC). That solution will combine Masterpass and Visa Checkout—two of our three digital wallet options available to Blackbaud Merchant Services™ customers using Blackbaud Checkout—into one payment (or “click-to-pay”) button.

The switch from Masterpass and Visa Checkout to this new payment button was intended to happen on January 21, 2020. However, Blackbaud was just notified that the card brands are delaying the transition to the new button and has not yet provided a revised timeline for when the new offering will be available.

What It Means

There is no impact to Blackbaud Merchant Services customers using Apple Pay or Visa Checkout. Transactions submitted through these digital wallets will continue to process as usual without interruption and your constituents can select them as they do today.

Masterpass, however, will be temporarily hidden on your Blackbaud Checkout forms. Our engineering teams are working diligently to restore access to this wallet and availability will, once again, resume during the week of January 27, 2020.

Next Steps

We will continue to update you as we learn more about the card brands’ revised timeline for making the new click-to-pay option available to our customers.

If you haven’t already registered, please join us on January 23, 2020 at 3 p.m. ET for the Payment Services Roadmap Review webinar.

Comments

  • Any idea when will Master Pass be hidden? As of now we still have it available on our Advanced Donation Forms that use Checkout

    Thanks, Shweta!
  • Hi Sweta,

Masterpass will be hidden in the early hours of January 21, 2020 (EST). Likely around 12:01am or soon after.

It will be available up until that point and then will display again the week of January 27th.

    Thanks,

    Clint
  • Are there any details on how this joining of forces might impact payments in CRM?
  • Hi J.D.,

If you use any BBIS forms, then the impacts will be what's described in this blog (for which we'll have updates once the card brands confirm a new date). If you have any customized forms, it will depend how Visa Checkout and/or Masterpass are incorporated into those forms. I would suggest reaching out to your Customer Success Manager to see if they can assess any custom forms.

    Thanks,

    Clint
  • @Clint Boswell - digital wallets options are still not available via BBIS event registration forms, correct? Paying via digital wallet is only available for BBIS online giving forms?
