Database Set up

We have been tasked with finding best practices for our database.  We are looking for data entry set up; creating a constituent, entering gifts/pledges, creating funds/appeals/campaigns/events.

Does anyone have examples of their current procedures with regard to the above?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We are working with the database for Raiser's Edge.  We inherited the set up that a former employee designed and we're not sure if it's best practice.

We were hoping to find a document that would guide us toward best practices for data entry, reporting, maintenance, etc.

It would help us help you if we knew what kind of organization you are.  There are general best practices, and best practices that a specific to types of orgs.  You will probably want to see both.
