Constituent profile not updating with data submitted via a survey question

Hi LO community,

We are sending a mailing to a group of donors that will include a "promo code" which we are asking them to submit via a Luminate survey. I've built the survey and also created a new custom field into which we need the promo code to map. I selected the "Select existing field" option in step 6 of setting up the survey question, and chose the appropriate field for the data to map to.


Now, however, when I've tested the survey on several of my own accounts, the promo code data I've entered is not mapping to my constituent profile. Any ideas on what else I need to do?

I'm assuming here that you're only talking about getting a string from an LO survey into Constituent360, and not into RELO or CRM. Also assuming you're trying to save from the survey into the C360 record, not the other way around.


It's a bit tough to tell without getting into your setup, but a couple things I'd recommend looking at:

• Things can get weird when you're filling out using an existing record. I realize you need that to work for a mailing campaign, but try filling out the form in a way that creates a new record just to check. It'll help you narrow down if it's related to the existing constituents or if the form itself isn't doing what's expected.
• Security categories can cause things to fail silently sometimes, check to see there aren't any access restrictions applying somewhere
• Make sure you've got "admin can see" enabled on your custom field in Admin > Database Configuration

Thanks for your thoughts on this Jeremy. I actually just got it figured out about an hour ago and turns out it's a fairly simple, if not totally intuitive, solution. When adding questions to the survey, the settings in the "Constituent Registration Info" question will apply to all additional questions you include. I didn't realize that. So, I needed to make sure the "accept response and update Constituent Profile" option was selected in Step 5 of the "Select Layout and Processing Options" step of adding the Constituent Registration Info question. Otherwise, none of the data you want to to add to a record will successfully map.
