Temporary Do Nots

Hello! I hope that everyone is coping with this Pandemic.

I have a question about temporarily marking someone Do Not Solicit. I know in NXT there are begin and end dates. Is there a way in database view to mark them temporary Do Not without setting up a group of reminders to remove these codes.

Any ideas are welcome.

I have some solicit codes that I classify as Not Before. So think pre consent era - Every solicit code requires an action unless it is a Not Before - this would allow me to go in on every January 1 and July 1 and remove those solicit codes without questioning them. As a high school, we enter our students into RE but we don't solicit them until after they graduate - unless they are a student trustee. (most of our seniors give - but they do the asking not us) 


So for this year I have

Appeal-Not Again This Fiscal Year (this keeps them in the denominator for my reporting as they were asked once and said not at this time)

Appeal-Not Before 20200701

Appeal-Not Before 20210101 - Usually this is used when we want to suppress them from the calendar year-end push or they gave in July but it was really meant for June.

Appeal-Not Before 20210701 

Appeal-Not Before 20220701 

Appeal-Not Before 20230701 

Appeal-Not Before 20240701 - If someone doesn't successfully navigate our school and graduate we don't start soliciting until before their graduation - that is what these are for.

Appeal-Not Before 20250701 

Appeal-Not Before 20260701 

Appeal-Not Before 20270701  


So I know that is a lot of codes but the maintenance is so simple. When I pass one date I globally remove it from the records and then I edit the code to the next year needed and move it down the list.

Similar to Elizabeth's response, we have a solicit code for:


Do not contact 2020

Do not solicit 2020


we add those for supporters that wish to not be contacted/solicited for the remainder of the year, the solicit codes get removed at the beginning of each year (for the previous year) and they will get added back into the regular mail schedule

We also have solicit codes of Do Not Solicit 30 days, Do Not Solicit 90 days. These are mostly used during a volunteer appeals or end of year appeal when donors have told us that a check is on the way and we don't want to bug them. I enter an action for myself with the reason for the solicit code and to remind myself to remove the solicit code in a set number of day, weeks, months...

We use solicit codes. We create codes like: Do not solicit until 2021. They are easy to add and easy to remove.

We keep our do not solicit codes pretty simple, with "do not solicit", "no mail", "no email", "no calls", and "no call party calls." However, any one marked with a solicit code also has a solicit code note with the reason for the code with a date range. At the end of each fiscal year, we review the list and the reasons and update/renew the coding and the notes using export/import. That way, we have a record of the time period when someone may have been marked "do not solicit" for a specific reason in their record.

For individuals whose solicit code is temporary, I put an action in their record on the date that the solicit code needs to be removed.
