deleting constituent records

Does anyone have a standard protocol in deleting a record(s) with gifts associated to it, but they haven't donated in over 10 plus years. I was taught never to delete a gift with a record, but if someone hasn't donated in a long time, do you feel it is okay to delete them? Thanks

Like you was trained never to delete records with gifts regardless of how long ago gift made. 


Haven't found that having those extra records caused a problem vs. the risk that at some point someone may want that info.

I don't know what would be gained by deleting these records.  I think more would be lost than would be gained.

no no no!  it is not okay to delete them.  You ruin the integrity and history of your data.  You can never see the full story of your org's history if you do that.  You can never see if a donor was a donor and then came back.  You can never tell if an estate gift that shows up is actually a donor you have not heard from or just someone affiliated that didn't have much of a gift history until they were deceased.


What is the point of deleting?  If you never have before why now?
