Recording Stewardship Mailings in RE

We mail out several stewardship pieces every year (two print newsletters, a research update and an annual report, etc.). We do not send these to everyone in the database, but only to select individuals.


Where is the best place to record this data, and perhaps use it to pull names for future mailings?

Sometimes the flexibility of RE makes it hard to choose where to put data. 


IMO, these would be actions (Mail and description of the piece) if they are not appealing for donations. Have table entry so data will be consistent to allow for querying.


I'd personally shy away from Attributes as that can get so much data as it is and in NXT it seems even more cluttered as only a few show and you have to click to see more.

My org is exploring the same thing. If a newsletter mailing was added as an action, for instance, would this be done as a global add once the mailing list was finalized?

It certainly could be done as global add as long as you have query of the records or have their ID #s to create a query. Be sure to mark action as complete with date when entering the data to add.

At our org, we made the decision to distinguish appeals as anything "mass-mail" and actions for personal touches. This allows us to more easily pull lists of people who have not had personal touches recently and keep a cleaner view for our fundraisers when they are needing to reach out to a donor. All "bulk" mailings, including newsletters, go under appeals. Of course, our newsletters -- while not having a direct ask -- include a donation remittance envelope as well, as well as info about our societies and other support programs, so in that sense they still contain an indirect opportunity to give.
