Mobile tablets

Hi  - We are new to Altru and will be going live this December, 2020. We offer lots of tours in off-site locations around the city of Aspen. I am seeking advice on which tablet to purchase that will allow guides to sell tickets (no printer or scanner necessary) off-site. We would like our guides to have the ability to create constituents, sell tours, (needs to have USB port for magnetic Credit Card Reader) and confirm attendance. We do not always have Wi-Fi available, so the tablets need to operate on cellular data plan. (4G)

Does anyone use anything like this? We have been exploring Surface Pros. I am looking for specific recommendations from someone who uses this system successfully.

Thank you,

  • Hi Nina, Did anyone have any input for you directly? I don't see any replies here.
  • Hi Michelle - I did not receive any input on any specifc tablet, other than the Surface Pro X which is the only 4G LTE device I can find. there isa company TEGUAR who make a rugged tablet that we may try, unless you have a good recomendation. This is so not my area of expertise so any help is appreciated.

    Happy Thanksgiving week,

  • We are still searching and planning on doing some testing of the Surface and an IPad to see what works.

I will share what we find out.

    Thanks.
  • Thanks for the update Michelle - Are you using BBMS?

  • We bought the Surface Pro and I wouldn't recommend. It worked ok as a stationary machine however, the small screen size was an issue for some of our guides. It's extremely limited as a mobile device and the deal-breaker was that it doesn't support the Blackbaud mobile pay card swiper. We have used an iPd with some success using Blackbaud mobile pay but there are some issues with USB ports.

We've had the most success with a laptop and wireless hot spot.

    Hope this helps.
