RE NXT - Batch Entry

We have both the RE database and RE NXT. Until this point, I have entered gifts exclusively using Batch in RE database (then Query and Gift Detail and Summary Reports for finance). 

Can anyone share their experiences using Batch in RE NXT? How does it compare / contrast with the database view?

I only use batch in NXT for automated recurring gifts because that is where they appear for approval when they process. There are key things that you can do in database view that batching in NXT won't do, including:

• Custom business rule pop-ups of for constituents - I use these to notate when a donor has an outstanding proposal, should be linked to a certain recent appeal, should be assigned to a fundraiser/solicitor, has no valid address, etc.
• Linking gifts to events
• Linking gifts to proposals
• Viewing constituent information on the side pane for quick updating/matching
• Adding a matching gift
• And more!

If I'm wrong and NXT now does any of these things, please let me know! I love updated functionality

We have found that we still need to do batch entry in the database view as there are really no customization options for batches in NXT at this point. Additionally, in NXT batch you are unable to apply a gift to a pledge, add attributes/custom fields, or tributes.


There may be other areas that are missing, but those are the main ones I know of and was enough reason for us to stick with the database view for batch entry. However, if those are features that you do not need and you largely just have single gifts and recurring gifts, the NXT batch entry could work. Once you commit the batch it will show up in the database view and you can do your query and report as you would before.

We  have a lot of separation of duties.  The person who is running the credit card cannot enter it into the database.  In RE NXT, you can't separate those two.

I also don't see the option to enter a pledge in a batch.

Hi Katie,

Like you, I am still using RE Batch to process gifts because we use Papersave to integrate Lockbox with it. We attach every document with each gift and NXT does not have that as yet. There are also other fields in Batch that are not available in NXT. With the number of gifts we receive, RE Batch is more efficiently designed for our needs.  Having said that, I enjoy using NXT to process credit cards - it's so much easier but I just have to remind myself to fill-in the missing fields in RE.  

I would love to hear from NXT users as well.
