Capture Notes on LO Donation and Sync to RE

We are using LO to collect donations and syncing to RE via the RELO plugin. We have a very straight forward implementation, other than a little JavaScript for front end layout. You can take a peek here: https://www.jcvi.org/give/research.


On our form we'd like to add a notes field so a donor could say something like "please direct my gift to x" or other instructions. Blackbaud support has told us that the only way to capture a note and sync to RE via RELO would be to use a field associated with the constituent rather than the donation itself, resulting in that field being overwritten on subsequent donations (also, it doesn't make sense organizationally anyway).


Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can capture a note on a Luminate donation and have it sync to the donation record in RE? Creative solutions welcome.

Is that an RELO limitation? Seems like Omatic is able to sync custom donation fields.


What about using some unused standard donation field to hold your comments that does sync, such as eCard - Message  or Honor Gift - Message Signature. Not sure how much they hold, but it's something.

Bit sloppier...what about putting a survey on the thank you page to gather comments after the fact? You could even populate the transaction id into a css hidden field using a bit of JS to help connect the comments with the gift.
